My name is Jorrin, and this is my first blog post EVER! So I’d like to take a second and tell you a bit about how I got into crypto, found out about Steemit, and why I am now starting a blog.
Like many folks out there I was one of the people that “slept” on the first few years of the “bitcoin movement” because I didn’t take the time to understand it. I was then a part of the crowd that finally realized, “oh shit maybe this bitcoin thing is legit”, but then quickly fell into the crowd that was saying, “yeah but it’s so expensive now, damn I really missed the boat”. I went on kicking myself every time I read the headline “BTC hits new all time high!!!”, until one day my buddy Tam (@Bramptoncrypto) called me up and explained that Bitcoins are divisible, and that I didn't have to buy a full one to get involved. This meant that it wasn’t too late, and that I could still get in at any time. This got the gears turning in my head, but it wasn’t until my birthday, late December 2017, that I got my first taste of crypto and I really started to take it seriously. As it turned out, Tam and a few of our friends pulled some cash together and bought me some Electroneum. Say what you will about the ETN project, but that moment changed my trajectory. I was now the proud owner of my very own crypto. I don’t personally have any kids, but looking back I kind of liken this experience to becoming a dad in a way; I wanted the best for MY little crypto. So just like that, down the rabbit hole I went. I started reading article after article, and finding YouTubers to follow, and ICOs….so many ICOs...with so many whitepapers. Needless to say, I was hooked.
As I dove further and further, it became clear to me that blockchain technology was truly revolutionary, and that it would have applications in just about every industry. On top of that, I must admit that I was enticed by the prospect of making some seriously epic gains, but that was also tempered with a healthy dose of skepticism (I was late to the party after all).
Somewhere along my journey for crypto knowledge, I came across on YouTube, and was impressed with the sheer amount of quality content, which was also newbie friendly. It was during one of their videos that I first heard about Steemit, and I decided to check it out some more.
I’ve never used platforms like YouTube or Medium as a creator, but I’ve also not been deaf to the cries of content creators wrestling with opaque algorithms to get their content visible, and dealing with the dilemma of embedding ads on their videos. Not to mention the bloggers’ plight of figuring out how to monetize their content without third parties taking large cuts. Steemit seems to provide a solution to these issues, and puts the power back into the hands of the content creators. How can I not get behind a platform like that?
So I’m officially declaring myself as a part of the community. I want to use my voting power to put some energy into the pockets of my fellow Steemians, and to see if I can find my voice as a writer and deliver value to the community. As I mentioned before I am hugely into crypto, so I imagine a lot of what I will post about will revolve around that, but I may also branch out and talk about some of my other interests, like gaming. It’s all up in the air right now, but I’m glad to be here.
There it is! My first blog post EVER! Internet haters come and get me.
