Hey everyone. My name's David, I'm 27 and I love movies.
I started writing screenplays flailing on a keyboard back around 2009. Bytes of stories and pages of notes have been recycled, reused, and redone with little to show. Now in 2018 I'm taking time to reflect and I would like you to join me.
What do I want to say? Why am I writing? What's the point?
Who am I?
To reveal yourself is an Odyssey of the mind really, a pilgrimage of the heart, and rarely takes less time than you'd like. Such enigmata bury their answers in the strangest places. I found some of mine in the question of What Happened To Monday?, an okay movie with a fantastic premise. In a future plagued by overpopulation, siblings are outlawed. Seven identical sisters must live their lives as one, each getting their own day of the week to be in public.
The question is simple, "What happened to Monday?", the potential for clever solutions spurred ideas of Cat and Mouse. My thoughts were racing, "HOW ARE THEY GOING TO ESCAPE?! WHERE IS SHE?! WHAT THE #### HAPPENED TO MONDAY?!"
BANG! BANG!
The answer was most simple.
Guns, Boring, Brutal rehashing of BANG. Why develop such an intricate world wrought by fears we are realizing in our own world...just to say BANG? Which brings me to this Rite. A challenge I offer to you all and to myself.
Rewrite your stories, replace easy or lazy answers with something new. Your guns are rocks, archaic pieces of granite weighing down our pages. Your gore? Flowers, scare me. I dare you.
Do your characters a service, prove to us how clever they truly are and become the Eagle you were destined to be.
Fly.
