After several weeks of not doing anything with Steemit at all, I've finally decided to introduce myself.
Hello!
My real name in Mike, and to be perfectly honest, I'm not sure why I'm here. From what I've seen thus far, most people on here are interested in making money. Who isn't, though? I'm stepping into this world completely blind. I know next to nothing about blockchain and cryptos and wallets and what-have-yous. There's certainly a wealth of knowledge in this community, and maybe I'll learn a thing or two when I make time, but that's not why I'm here.
What I think I'm seeking is an escape from normal, regimented, cut-up, banal, vapid, and how many more adjectives do I need social media. I may not even tell any of my facebook friends about this. I may just write when I feel like writing, expressing myself freely away from the judgement of my peers. I could care less about the judgement of strangers. Though not all may remain strangers. This may become nothing more than occasional creative outlet, albeit a low-budget one. But what I lack in production value, I hope to compensate for in quality of content.
My initial plan was to share my love of disc golf and my experience as I progress through the ranks of jiu-jitsu. I'll still start out that way. But I may delve in to broader topics I'd never discuss on other social media. We'll see.
To get things started, here's me getting my hand raised after a tournament a few months ago.
The gentlemen in the blue gi attempted to pass my guard without addressing my right hand deep in his collar behind his right ear. I reached under my right arm with my left hand to the other side of his neck, and felt my index fingers touch behind his head. When I rolled my wrists forward, the blood supply to his brain clamped shut and he quickly tapped out. The cross-collar choke is a favorite of my particular academy. This was the second time I pulled one off in a tournament but the last time as a white belt. I will be testing for blue belt soon and I don't want to compete again until I get it.
I still want to cover a lot of ground in my white belt days though, as there are valuable lessons to be learned from them. I hope to write a few good articles on it soon. My goal is to inspire others to challenge themselves. I can't emphasize enough the benefits derived from martial arts, especially jiu-jitsu or "BJJ". Martial arts combines discipline, confidence, fitness, self-defense, and countless other benefits. Take some time and some money, and invest in yourself. You won't regret it.
If money is tight though, there's a good chance there's a free disc golf course within 30 minutes of you that you never knew existed. Get yourself a decent driver disc for around $20 and go explore! Disc golf gives you the outdoors and in most cases, parks are completely free. Just don't be a dick and leave your beer bottles around! More on this to come too. Stay tuned. Or don't. I promise I won't be hurt.
TLDR
Hi, nice to meet you.
