That's an interesting question and I talked about it with my local partner, the Red Cross. Before starting the events we had a long meeting where we evaluated different possible activities. I told them that I'd love to do something with watersports since this is my field of interest and since I know how powerful the Ocean is. It may not solve every problem, but it definitely helps to make people feel better. The Red Cross fully agreed. They said, that physical activity may be as important as providing food to them. Their social environment is very restrictive, so they ususally don't have the opportunity to leave home and enjoy nature.
So to answer your question: yes, we believe that these activities deserve charity. But of course, everybody is completely free to support us or support other institutions that are merely focussing on food supply and medical help. I think you can't ever do enough charity :-)
