Muzakir Manaf (born in Seunudon, North Aceh, Aceh, April 3, 1964, age 53) is a GAM combatant. He served as Commander of the Free Aceh Movement. He has served as Vice-Governor of Aceh.
His name is Muzakir Manaf, but the people of Aceh used to say hello to this man as Mualem. During the war of Atjeh, the title of Mualem was attributed to someone who had a high knowledge of military science, who had the ability to train his troops. In peacetime now, Acehnese still call Muzakir Manaf as Mualem. Of course, the nuances are no longer associated with military matters, but as a greeting of honor, not only for former GAM Free Aceh Movement (GAM) combatants but also by all other Acehnese.
At the 2012 Aceh Regional Election, Aceh Party-as the largest party in Aceh-carries Muzakir Manaf as a candidate for vice-governor of Aceh 2012-2017, together with dr. Zaini Abdullah, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of GAM who carried the Aceh Party as Candidate of Governor of Aceh. Muzakir Manaf himself also served as Commander of GAM, replacing Abdullah Shafi'i who died on January 22, 2002.
After the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) of Helsinki was signed on 15 August 2005, GAM's military wing was dissolved, and then formed the KPA (Aceh Transitional Committee) as a vehicle for the transition of former GAM combatants into ordinary civil society. Since its establishment in 2005 until now, Mualem has served as Chairman of KPA. At the same time also Chairman of the Aceh Party, since 2007 until now.
