Gabriel an npower agro youth volunteer extension worker and a graduate of animal science and technology; Federal university of technology owerri imo state has this to say about his volunteer experience and impact.
"As friend to farmers providing solution to most farmers' needs via a well tested also well researched information and effective use of social media to enlighten the teaming unemployed youth has been a fruitful experience for me".
In the time past, where i come from, virtually everyone were busy looking and encouraging their children to study for white collar jobs which are not readily available or comes with a lots of uncertain promises and conditions, only but few women and men were interested in agriculture with crud tools or no technologies.
All has changed as a result of massive engagements of the youths by federal government of nigeria through the Social investment program( SIP)-NPOWER. Through this program more than 70,000 are being enrolled in the scheme and are currently serving as volunteer extension agents there by increasing the knowledge of agriculture in their various location.
No doubt the programme has yielded much result and impacted to increasing the output of our rural farmers.
Through my field demonstration Most parents were convinced to encourage their youths to practice agriculture and see the profession as a viable means to make wealth.
Volunteer extension work in the rural communities has proven to be the best way to get our youths all over africa, Asia, Europe, and the world involved in agriculture
Am proud to be a nigerian youth am proud to be a farmer and proud to represent Npower agro volunteer extension agent
