Hello, Steemit Community
The world is a big and scary place.
Everyone has an angle. People lie. Companies representing people who lie are trying to sell you something. Sometimes it's insurance. Sometimes it's a political candidate. Often it's harmless, like a mixed tape or a health-food bar with 30 grams of added sugar.
News organizations are marketplaces. Social media revolutionized the market as both the producer and the product. There are too many variables were one simply interested in getting at the facts of life as we understand them. These facts are important for critical thinking and building sufficient mental models on which to hang new information.
In absence of facts, scientists must engage like political figures. Political figures are further mashed into salespersons. Remove empirical evidence from the discussion and the marketer is the genius, not the genius.
Today, what citizens call "society" is a sublimating cult of personality. Even the entertainer is losing luster, as there are no spectators. Everyone's an entertainer, a competitor, and the stakes are too low to resist.
Welcome to Harder Topics.
This is a project dedicated to the research and publishing of facts. That's it.
I interview working professionals. I ask them 5 questions, 4 technical, 1 unique to what they believe to be the most interesting thing about their profession no one outside their profession knows. I do not ask them where they are from or how they got started. I do not ask them where they went to school. I do not ask them the name of their oldest child or why they chose a dachshund over a saluki. I don't care.
I care about what they know. That is what I share with you through a selection of interviews, research, books, a weekly letter, and other exclusive materials necessary to improve the conversations of everyday people. I believe in learning and sharing information on a diversity of intelligent topics.
