My friend encouraged me to join Steemit because she knows that I have been blogging for years about a variety of topics (travel, filmmaking, alternative healing, etc) and she thought this would be a good place to express myself while also meeting cool people.
The Toughest Question: "About Me"
The reason my friend thought this would be a good place for me to blog/vlog/etc is because right now I have several semi-active blogs on a variety of topics.
There are a lot of things I love to explore deeply. Some of them include alternative medicine, directing and producing movies, permaculture, photography, supplements, comedy, programming, and travel.
I have blogs about a lot of those topics and I feel like I have had to compartmentalize myself into different topics or "niches" in order to connect with other people in that "tribe", but by doing so, I am only showing a portion of who I am and therefore only presenting myself in a partial & superficial way. But it's less confusing for people so I continue to do it and I feel that is best for my blogs.
I have been holding off posting about a new project because I don't want to add another blog. I just want to do it. But how do I do it without muddying my presence on other niche sites?
Enter Steemit
The way it sounds like Steemit is set up, I can post about whatever is fascinating me at the time and as long as I tag it properly, people that are interested in what I have to say will be more likely to find the post, but I do not have to stick to one topic, which makes me very happy!
Me... RIGHT NOW
As my life is almost always in flux, I can only speak for the moment about what my life is about.
I am interning at a progressive news station in Los Angeles, though my home is on the East Coast. So who knows if I am going to stay here or not when the internship is over, but I couldn't pass it up because I love the company and I love working in a studio with live broadcasting, so I had to go for it.
I am staying in an Airbnb and exploring LA by bike and public transportation, which has been interesting... sometimes good, sometimes not so good. But it makes a good topic for my travel blog so even when it's bad it's good. :-)
I lived in L.A. 10 years ago and I liked it then, but I am not sure I like it now. I crave deep forests and stepping on juicy earth with my bare feet and that is just not something I am going to find in this town.
Also, I have found that the quality of life in L.A. is not as high as in other cities, even New York. People work their butts off here and accept conditions that would never be permissible in other cities. I could write about the reasons why and maybe I will in another post, but I won't get into it right now.
But L.A. is a fun town because it is very social and I have always found the people very friendly (despite its reputation), so I am going to wait before I make any final judgments about a permanent stay.
The Deets
Permaculture:
I got my PDC in 2015 and it was awesome! I have read a lot of books since then and have a lot of theory in me but not a lot of hands on knowledge. Always seeking that out.
Alternative Healing:
I have been studying herbs and alternative medicine since I was 14 simply because I was interested in it, and I never really stopped studying it. I was a professional massage therapist for a while and that was a fantastic boost to my knowledge about the body and healing.
Travel:
Most of my travel is in North America and by car... because I love it. I love other areas of the world, too, but there is so much variety of urban and natural terrain in the United States that on its own finding new nooks and crannies of the U.S. has fascinated me for years and will likely provide more opportunities for exploration than I could ever complete in my lifetime.
Filmmaking, Photography, Broadcasting, Directing, Producing, Editing and anything else camera-related:
This is what I have been doing most of my life and I love it. Nuff said.
