What's this? Another "introduce yourself" post?
Yes, and there's a good reason for it. The previous 3 posts described who I have been: pole dancer, fiddler, and engineer. In this post, I'd like to introduce you to the new Jackie that I'm in the process of creating.
This Jackie is making an effort to follow her intuition and be true to her authentic self. She's embarking on an entrepreneurial journey, starting up her own business as a sound healer.
What is a "sound healer"? You might ask. Good question. I'm still in the process of defining that! Haha. What I do know is that sound is a form of energy, just like light, that I feel has great potential as a tool for healing. We're starting to see more and more light-based therapies (laser-eye surgery, infrared saunas, etc.), and I believe that sound energy will be the next "wave" (haha) of medical technology. It's in the early stages of discovery and I'm excited to be a pioneer, exploring the realms of sound that we don't yet understand. I feel strongly that the experience of earning a PhD in chemical and biomedical engineering has prepared me to ask the right questions, gather the necessary information and observe outcomes without bias. My love for music and creating sound complements this analytical element of myself and will allow me to think beyond the four-dimensional "box".
So, how do I use sound to heal? With medical-grade, Solfeggio frequency tuning forks and a variety of other instruments at my disposal. My trip down to Pennsylvania in September was more than just a retreat from reality after my PhD defence. I was earning my second level certification in vibrational sound therapy directly from Lisa Alexander, creator of the Alexander Method.
This is probably the biggest challenge I've faced to date, redefining myself in a way that best serves me. It's also turning out to be an extremely rewarding experience. I feel like I'm finally coming into my own as an individual and that I have renewed vitality, curiosity, and passion. I've been waiting for the day that I no longer feel afraid to embark on this venture, and have come to realize that that day will never come. I'm still scared, and I'm doing it anyways (AHHHHHHH!! :D). I'm ready to ask the "what if" questions that will challenge our perception of reality.
Follow along as I share my experience starting this business as well as the information I discover about sound healing and sound energy! I'd love to connect with you if you are also a sound healer, if you have experienced a sound healing session or if you're interested in discussing this healing modality!
Stay tuned ;)
