Currently developing a personal research project involving Riemann's Geometry and advanced drawing techniques.
Since Bernhard Riemann broke the 5 Euclidean statement, we are now able to
the increase the angle of vision (up to 360º ) which was limited to 50º with Euclidean Geometry. And, another particular consequence of 2nd order Riemaniann Manifold applied to art is that we can curve the space, breaking the flat plane.
That is we can chose a surface where Christoffel Symbols are not equal to zero, which is the case of a flat plane. In such surfaces, straight lines are converted into geodesics and the curvature of a geodesic is very interesting for art purposes.
These two variables, angle of vision and custom curved spaces, represent a challenge for graphic artists because these new decisions must be considered under a aesthetics criteria and not under perspective criteria which was the case with flat planes.
Thanks to my father, I was introduced in Greek Geometry, basically the theorem of Thales. During the classes, my father, very angry, use to say “Find the projection Triangle! Put the eye in it!”. This was the clue to solve tricky geometrical problems, there was always a hidden triangle in which the Thales proportionality solved the problem. This master class given to my brothers and me, boosted all of us to get incredible high math qualifications.
Some years later, I was painting a horrible portrait of a waitress, completely out of perspective and proportion which I left unfinished. My mother came to me and said, very severe: “Young man, do you normally finish what you begin?”. I was depressed for long weeks. Of course, my mum was right, as usual.
When I was a teenager, I built an incredible scientist society with my brother Luis. Among other inventions, we sketched and dreamt of a magnetic suspended train and an air-compressed engine to power wheel cars.
Then, for many years, I became an idiot and forgot mum and dad advises.
Today, I spent more than four hours a day studying mathematics. From the ancient Greek Geometry, I studied with my father, I turned into Riemann’s Differential Geometry, as part of a personal research.
So, my tip of the day is: Confess you are an idiot, and confess it now, because until you don’t confess it you will not understand your surrounding world.
