What’s up Steemians?! My name is Kory and I am super excited to join this community of loving, open-minded, and supportive friends! I first heard about Steemit from cryptocurrency vloggers such as ,
, and
. At first I was hesitant to join; I mean who needs ANOTHER social networking site. However, after hearing multiple people talk about how awesome Steemit is I thought this couldn’t be a coincidence and I should check it out. Once I broke down and checked out the site I knew this was the social network to end all other social networks. I only recently began browsing the site and it quickly became apparent this community was totally different from all others. This is genuinely a community of strangers that support one another without the constant pissing contest on sites like Facebook and Instagram. I am so glad I finally listened and joined this community.
A little about myself:
I’m currently working as a research technician in a neuroimmunology lab studying how changes in the gut microbiota impact survival times in a mouse model of brain cancer. We are still early in our project but I have been lucky enough to have gotten hired right as it was beginning. Our early results have been very promising and I look forward to sharing our data with you as soon as it is published (not trying to get scooped, am I right?!)! My ultimate goal is to attend medical school and become a surgeon (not sure exactly what type but I know I want to cut), but I have also recently started a reselling business that is slowly, but surely growing. If the business does what I’ve seen others do I may do that full time because I don’t think there is anything better than working for yourself and spending the majority of time with my family.
My brothers and I at my wedding (I'm on the right):
Speaking of family, I’m extremely lucky to have a very tightknit and supportive family (kinda like Steemit, huh?) and I’ve been happily married to my best friend, Kelly, for 3 years. It’s been a crazy ride so far but continues to get better and better every day. We recently found out some amazing news! We are having a baby girl! She is due December 1 so things have been crazy trying to prepare for her arrival but I am extremely excited to welcome this new bundle of joy into our lives!

We are also huge music lovers! If any of you see me out and about I can almost guarantee you I will have headphones in and be dancing down the sidewalk! Before Kelly became pregnant we were constantly attending various music festivals around the country and made tons of friends from all over the country and the world during our adventures. I am looking forward to sharing some of our future adventures with the community! We are actually going to Sloss Fest this weekend and I will definitely take tons of pictures to share with everyone here!
All of us at Hangout Music Festival:
At TomorrowWorld with my boy Dashawn:
Us and our sister from another mister, Haley, at Voodoo Fest in NOLA:
Other than our adventures and other interesting things I find, I’ve thought about starting a Science for the Masses (working title) series that outlines some of the cool things going on in the world of immunology and science in general. I am constantly blown away by the advances we are able to make and am always trying to soak up as much knowledge as I can and I hope to share this knowledge with my fellow Steemians! I read a quote somewhere that, paraphrasing, said you can measure a man’s worth by what he knows!
I’m looking forward to interacting, learning, and experiencing this journey called life with you beautiful people! Steem on!
