Hi all, my name is Le-Roi van Niekerk. I live in South Africa in a small rural town mainly focused on Maize production.. I am the Town Planner at the Local Council Offices and a husband to a beautiful wife and a father to 3 handsome boys. My first language is not English so please excuse me if my writing is not too good.
We are situated in the North Western part of the country close to where most of the game wildlife is being preserved in the Magalies Mountain area and close to the Thabazimbi area. Or more well known as the South African bushveld.
The White Rhino
When we have the privilege to visit the nature reserves I try to practice my photography hobby as much as I can... I would appreciate if anyone in the comments can give some tips and links to sites that will help me to take better shots. The above photo is one of our White Rhino. It is a protected species because they are being hunted for their horn... It's so sad that hundreds of these rhinos die by the hands of poachers on a monthly basis... It is such a magnificent creature. Our game farms go a long way to protect these animals and so game rangers actually need to carry semi automatic weapons for in some cases they literally enter into firefights with these poachers to protect the rhino. I unfortunately cannot disclose the name of the Game Farm where I took this picture mainly because it is regarded as a near threatened species and many game rangers died at the hands of poachers. So sad that it had to come to this. We South Africans are very thankful to everyone throughout the world trying their best to protect our rhino.
I will write some stories of our trips to the game farms and about the wildlife we have here.
Well that's it for now. Hope you found my short discussion about our rhino interesting and I would love to write some more on our other animal. I will also write about places to visit if you were to ever consider vising South Africa. Peace to all.
