Hi STEEM! I'm Víctor, I'm 30 and I live in Barcelona. I make my living as a web developer and I would like to tell you the history of my life:
I got my first computer when I was 9. It actually was my sister's computer. I spent thousands of hours in her room playing with that amazing machine.
I broke it a hundred times and my father was terribly angry about it. At the time, repair shops were really expensive. My sister was also mad at me because I lost her homework several times but also because I was always around her room. Since that first moment I've always been fascinated with computers.
After some years of whack-a-mole learning, I started buying computer magazines with the money I managed to "earn" from my family. It may sound crazy but the first thing I got into was reverse engineering. I had no programming knowledge and I barely started playing with computers but the idea of being able to manipulate software to behave the way I wanted truly amazed me.
Soon I realized I couldn't go too far without programming knowledge so I bought myself the first chapter of "Curso IBM de programación para Windows 95". The first programming language I learnt was Visual Pascal and just because Borland Delphi came for free.
I've had great marks until I got into bachelor's degree. After that, I realized that the thing I liked the most wasn't taught on the school so I eventually drop out after four years. I've been always been a smart but terrible student. At the time the Internet was kicking in and I quickly became interested in Web technologies. Computer class was my favorite but not because it was fruitful, but because it was my gateway to the Internet, to the knowledge. So I downloaded tutorials like there was no tomorrow and started playing with PHP. At 16 I replaced my academic education with a DIY computer science crash course and my sole teacher was the Internet.
Later on 1998 the Internet arrived at home. I bought myself my first computer with the money I earned from my first jobs and some savings. I made some personal sites and built a successful music community. It was mind-blowing, finally I could search and learn everything I wanted, whenever I wanted. It also opened my mind to a whole new level of musical knowledge. It was an amazing time, computers and music were everything to me. I met a lot of people on IRC and made lots of new friends. I used to hang out and bang our heads in the late 90's Hardcore scene shows from Barcelona.
My parents never had a clue about what was going on with me and the computers so they were restrictive and tough with my passion. I don't blame them as computers were fairly new to everyone and I was kind of addicted to them. At seventeen I signed up for a programming course. I drop out the course after three months because I got my first job as part-time web programmer in a company that found me at the course's job board. I moved to Barcelona after a while.
After working with PHP for some years I got bored and found Ruby and Ruby on Rails to be an amazing new thing to learn. So I did and quickly switched my job. Since then I've been professionally working with Ruby but also mastered many other amazing technologies like React. I worked on many successful companies and also helped my sister build her humble jewelry business
I quit my last job on January and I've been traveling a little. My plan now is to build my own thing. Meanwhile a friend of mine introduced me to STEEM and now I'm totally addicted. I've never been interested in cryptocurrencies before but I see a lot of potential in this one.
...now you know about a little more of me
A pleasure to meet you all :)
