This is my first post here, and a friend told me "you must #introduceyourself" to the community!
So why am I here? I'm joining the Steem community because it's one of the first projects that is usable today in the blockchain space and because I like to write. Yet we are still early, and I'm really excited about the future use cases across different verticals.
I was born in Venezuela, which is probably the country which most urgently needs a censorship-resistant and decentralised economy. I left Venezuela over 10 years ago, and have been spending the past few years founding and marketing startups in EdTech, Media and Cybersecurity in Israel.
Ergo, my username, lionzion: leon (lion) zion (Israel). Yes, I enjoy reggae, but not reggaeton.
I'm excited about humanity's collective future. Internet went wrong somewhere along the way, it was supposed to free us, but in many ways it enslaved us. We hacked old power hierarchies into the Internet and gave them our data blindly. Consequently, instead of becoming more connected, we became disconnected. The fruits of the Internet spoiled, but the upgrade has finally arrived: Blockchain promises to release the full power of an interconnected world and take humanity to the MOON.
But like all technologies, it is a double-edged sword and we must all play an active role to bring about this decentralised future. Otherwise, we risk giving more power to the established players, and continue down a path of further inequality and oppression. In fact, the narco-communist regime in Venezuela is trying to impose their own cryptocurrency to solidify their control, the same regime whose economic practices have evaporated the currency. They have no shame, and if they succeed in forcing this opressive digital currency, we will see the dark side of blockchain.
It is for these reason that I'm joining the decentralised revolution full-time, and I'm looking forward to putting my grain of sand to help these ecosystems thrive. The better angels will prevail and the future will be bright.
