I'm based in Chiang Mai atm, that's more my city tbh. But Bangkok is great too. First time? I would just pick an area and really focus on that. Traffic can be a bitch if you want to go across the city.

Either start with the touristy old town, or focus on the Sukhumvit area (which is still huge; check Asok, Thong Lor / Ekkamai). Hope this helps!
