Hi everyone!
My name is Matías Menarguez, I'm a professional drummer (mostly a Jazz drummer) from Buenos Aires, Argentina.
As I'm not the most organized person, I entered the #openmic for week 63 before introducing myself here, but well, here I am!
I've been playing and studying for more than 17 years now, and thanks to music and projects I've participated in, I've been lucky enough to travel to different countries and do what I love the most, which is playing drums.
Here's a short clip of me "vandalizing" NYC while I was on tour with "The SoHo Rentals".
Being a musician has never been easy, and today, given the amount of information and inmediate access we (almost) all have is, in my opinion, simplifying the art so we can produce more, faster.
That is why I would like to invite you all to go back to basics, go back to that time when we would sit down and listen to an entire record without interruptions or multitasking, no cell phone/facebook/whatsapp in the middle, and just try to get inside of what you are listening.
I've been doing this for some years now, with vinyls from Coltrane, Miles, Bowie, Shorter, and believe me, TODAY, that becomes a privilege!! Being able to pay full attention to what we want to do, is a privilege.
After working on theater plays for some years now I still can not believe that people have to check their phones in the middle of the play. Let's make a change!
I will be creating posts with music I would recommend everyone to listen to, some of my own projects, some of people I admire.
If you happen to be a drummer, and want to get any kind of info/execercises, want to start playing Jazz, or whatever you need, let me know in the comments and I'll gladly create a video for you.
Looking forward to reading your thoughts on this, if any, and please feel free to follow me on https://steemit.com/@matiasmenarguez
I say goodbye with a song I composed for my Jazz Quartet "Perceptual", played live some time ago.
I hope you enjoy it!
