My name is Melissa Jarquin. I'm a nutritionist, lifestyle coach, fitness junkie, Code Lemon non-profit founder, Wife, Parent of two small Humans, and fur parent of one small patterdale terrier-ish (nobody really knows!) dog!

I was pre-med in college but the idea of pushing pills on people never sat well with me. In retrospect, I could have approached that in an entirely different light and opted for Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine but perhaps there was a life lesson or serendipitous path change for me that lead me toward my truer calling!
Growing up I saw how much medicine, when abused or not regulated properly by the health care system, can negatively impact one's health. I saw a parent take upwards of 13 different pills a day just to function because someone told her she needed to, and she trusted them. During my educational journey I explored nutrition and how it is one of our original forms of "medicine."
Going through my own health journey and life struggles I was always interested in how to become 'better' and optimize my health and lifestyle. I find that more often than not, it's about what you omit from your life that can create the biggest positive difference in your wellness and quality of life.
I was serendipitously given the book "Body for Life", by Bill Phillips when I was 14 years old. I devoured the book in a brief car trip and my life forever changed! This book planted the seed for me to start making small changes that, little did I know, would create a long lasting impact. To this day I still utilize some of those workout techniques. That book is where I learned about super-sets and HIIT (high intensity interval training) before anyone was calling it "HIIT!"
I also want to use Steemit to share my life with others and hope to inspire more people to use Steemit and hope to bring more value to our community! I hope you'll join me in this journey!
