Hello Steemit, my name is Mickey but I tend to go by Lyonrah (lee-own-rah) for my work and I'm super excited to jump into this budding community and share what I have with all of you! A little about me, I live in Minneapolis, MN and am a poet/musician just looking for more ways to get out there and share what I love with other people.
I will be posting here my old and current work as it is concerned with poetry and music. I want to share not only my final products but also show the process of creating these things, giving people a better overall feel for how the final product comes together. I am mainly inspired by my life and the people around me. I have done a bit of traveling, seeing Southeast Asia, Peru, parts of the Caribbean, and most recently working on a fishing boat in Alaska, but through all of this the driving force I have found, the thing that keeps me going back time and again to the drawing board, is that mystical thing that has been called by innumerable names, my most favorite, or closest to my heart, as the Tao.
That being said some of my influences for poetry are Rilke, Rimbaud, Rumi, Hafiz, Khalil Gibran, Robert Frost, the Tao (obviously), and some Dylan Thomas. I'm also influenced by writers as well such as Hunter S. Thompson, Jack London, Richard Bach, Mark Helprin, Aldous Huxley, and Hemingway, not to mention all the odd books you read, like "Zen and The Art of Motorcycle Maintenance", "Siddartha", "On The Road", or "The Fountainhead". When it comes to music that's a little harder to pin down but currently I love Andrew Bird, The Tallest Man on Earth, Chance The Rapper, Eric Burdon, some of the greats like Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, etc. etc. but for both of them it is a constantly evolving list.
My goal is to just share and grow and to take you along for the ride, if you will have me. To create beauty out of authenticity and proximity with the divine. I hope to hear from many of you and jump right into the discussion, keep your eyes open for a poetry post coming soon. Was happily turned on to Steemit it by my friends &
. Thank you for reading, I would love any recommendations you might have for poets on the site as well as any feedback. Thanks for checking me out, I'll leave you with a poem, all the best!
Like vagabonds we are
Walking through wheat fields,
Passing small cottages and little towns,
Making conversation with those we meet.
The human connection I once thought lost
Still calls,
Not deadened by wave after wave
Of countless eyes,
Just wheat as I pass.
We stumble upon one another,
Walking along with solitude as a cloak,
The meeting a bond
Born of the time spent on the road,
We vagabonds.
Our sea changes,
Our hills breath and sigh,
Our trees replaced by street lamps,
Our fields by row upon row of concrete corn stalks.
Our road may appear loud and cluttered,
Over run with neon lights,
Hiding us all, driving us along to live cut off.
But no,
These city streets can be just like
Those long peaceful prairie paths,
Like the vastness of the ocean,
Like the remoteness of the desert,
In all these the silence, the scale,
The impressing wonder
Bring man and women closer,
Huddling together chattering and cooking.
Our road is still the same, only now
Our fields are houses, apartments, square city blocks,
Our wheat, bodies,
Our mountains, skyscrapers,
Our streams, sidewalks and streets.
The traveler still walks,
Still recognizes another traveler.
Still welcomes in another traveler,
Sit down, the tea is almost ready.
