I’ve already published 2 posts and completely forgot to introduce myself to you! Then we'd better catch up right away. Most of my postings will be in German, but I will certainly write something in English as well. That's why I'd also like to introduce myself in English.
I grew up in the beautiful city of Lucerne in Switzerland. I was never the person who was particularly enthusiastic about anything, but I really tried a lot. Figure skating, accordion, piano, volleyball, salsa dancing, modeling, theatre, to name a few examples. I was never really fascinated by anything, and I also meandered through high school without much enthusiasm for the subjects. After high school I enrolled in journalism and communication at the university. Something with media, that's fine. Shortly before I started the semester, I changed my mind and had my main subject changed to chemistry. I didn't really feel up to the whole thing. But you never know what you would be able to master if you didn't try, right?
Meanwhile, I’m in my Master’s in biochemistry and have discovered my passion for science. Fortunately, in the last few years I have discovered more passions of mine. I have always been a very self-reflexive person, but unfortunately this characteristic disappeared during puberty. It's nice to have it back now. A year ago, I decided that I wanted to change my diet from that of an omnivore, mainly fed on ready-made lasagna and potato chips, to vegan. I started to question our food production and also the effects of our immense consumption of meat, eggs, milk, etc. on the world and especially on animals (and humans). Don't get me wrong, I don't think we humans should not eat animal products per se. But the outgrowth that the industry has become concerns me. In my opinion, we should start as soon as possible to find a solution how we can feed the growing world population in a fair and sustainable way. I would lie if I claimed that the vegan diet (without background knowledge and preparation) is holistically healthy. Nutritionally there is a lot to be considered and also on such topics I would like to go into on my Blog. Because, vegan or not, important is nevertheless that we are healthy.
What else is there to tell? Sustainability is a very big topic for me, even though I still don't do everything perfectly. I'm always trying to question and optimize my present self, maybe there will be one or two sustainability posts, such as my avocado post I already posted. I've also been trying to gain weight for a long time. Maybe some of you know that, you can eat what you want and still you don't gain an ounce. You'd think so. Fortunately, you can gain weight if you really try. To do it vegan is certainly more difficult, because the calorie density is lower, but certainly not impossible. To record my weight-gain attempt on a blog would certainly motivate me. Please let me know in the comments if this would be appreciated.
That’s it for my introduction, I hope I didn’t kill you with the huge amount of text. Of course, I am very happy about feedback and I hope for an exciting and instructive time here on Steemit. And as a born introvert, I am also happy when one or the other comes up to me and maybe good and profound conversations develop. I am probably still too shy to do the first step.
greetings
