Hi, I'm new to steemit, just joined few days ago. I am Japanese living with my family in Malaysia, and I am an artist so I will be posting mainly of my artworks including batik, sewing project and crochet.
Simply, I was brought up in few countries because my father's job, so I am Japanese, but keep myself open minded. When I was studying, I met my husband and started our life in Malaysia.
To describe simply, Malaysia has beautiful nature, many variouse people living here a cultural and ethnic melting pot. Where I am living in, Borneo, more local ethnic diversions and co-existance. Chinese Hakka ladies taking a morning walk, muslim Bajau boy going to school, my kids learn Dusun, English and Malay in school. So that includes me as well, Japanese who had been in various countries finally settled down here.
What I am experiencing, a tropical climate is basically hot every day, and occasional heavy but short rain. I've got no skill but my husband has this incredible skill that could read the weather by just looking at surrounding and say "yep, it will rain in 20 minutes time". Yes, I wish I had that skill.
Anyhow, I also want to talk about myself with my profile picture to get started with. I always like making art but also crafts, handicrafts. Now I really love doing it becasue you could produce them according to what you need or not available in stores.
So this picture was taken at my home, on the wall, the paper butterflie are draft for batik.
I saw a beautiful wrap scarf online but how to get it? There is no trend wearing it hete so look for it in shopd are out of the question.
Solution? Simple. Just make it! But when you want to make craft where I am living is not easy.
Craft shop is located a bit far, materials are not always available.... so I use whatever I have at home or purchase anything similar to what I am looking for.
To look for a material, I didn't had a yawn, so I looked around my home and undone 2 of my white cardigans that I don't wear them any more. For color variation, I used sewing threads.
The trace of long long time and interesting lives, I like fossils. I have never been to any fossil hunting, but even looking at layers of soil, an earth formation gives me inspiration. So I wanted this wrap to look like one. Each thread of colors are intentionally used randomly and not so continuously to make them appear more layer-ish look.
I made it by crochet, mainly double-stitch. It needs to go around your body twice so it became quite long. I stitched buttons so it could be wrap and just a scarf.
I had been a facebook and instagram user for quite some time, so many of my artworks are still there and they are my source of pictures.
Besides making art, I also like to watch movies, listen to music especially jazzy number, and read classic literature, mystery, animal and paleontology books.
Nice knowing you!
