Hello fellow steemers!
Who am I, how did I discover Steemit, and what do I want out of it?
I’m a 23 year old norwegian student. I live in Bergen, the second biggest city in the country. I’m studying political science, and will be finished with my bachelor degree later this year.
I’ve always been a political junky. I started watching political debates when I was 11 years old, and I loved those parts of history, philosophy and social science that had to do with politics. I read my first political biography of the legendary and infamous Norwegian politician Carl I. Hagen, when I was 16. I also read my first book on political philosophy when I was 16 – which happened to be the prince by Niccolò Machiavelli.
As you probably have guessed by now, politics have been, and still is, my greatest passion. However, I’ve realized in later years that the type of politics I am most interested in, are the deep, timeless and controversial topics. Topics like freedom, equality, justice, tolerance, civil rights, human rights, and the like. After a while, it struck me that these questions are not merely political questions - they are also questions of philosophy, economy, religion and values.
Since then, I’ve spices up my passion for politics by adding elements from philosophy, literature, history, religion and art. This have broadened both my understanding and perspectives on politics beyond what I thought was possible.
So how did I discover Steemit?
I first heard about Steemit a couple of weeks ago. Me and a good friend of mine were walking up “Fløyen”, one of the many mountains that surrounds the city center of Bergen. In one way or another, the topic switched over to cryptocurrency. And when we were already speaking of crypo currency, he started to tell me about Steemit rather quickly.
The second time I heard about Steemit was a couple of days ago when another friend of mine had started using Steemit as well. My friend, who is an aspiring architect and artisan, told me about this page. A page, in his words, where he’s paid for writing about things he love! The money is not that great yet, he said, but the concept is awesome anyway!
I decided that I wanted to start my own account as well after talking to my two friends. Though there were many reasons why I started this account, two of them made me start. The most important one is my love of the written word. In recent years, I’ve really fallen in love with the art of writing. In fact, one of my goals in life is to be able to live by being a writer. When I was introduced to steemit, I realized right there and then that this was the perfect platform for aspiring writers – a place where you can write about what you love, receive positive feedback along the way, make lots of friends, while making a little money if my readers likes my writing.
The second reason, as I mentioned slightly, is that this sites have discussion forums of all of the topics I find fascinating and interesting – Politics, philosophy, literature, economy – and probably many other things as well! Having the ability to partake in this community, and at the same time have interesting conversations with interesting people about interesting topics, is the ultimate win-win!
Once again, hello fellow steemers! If you have any questions, feel free to ask!
Bye for now :-)
