Hi all!
Rianne here: a non-techie with a love for creating social impact using new technologies.
Truth be told... I'm a bit intimidated and excited at the same time by you all here on Steemit & Busy. I got accepted just a few days ago and been lurking around. I feel surrounded by a group of 'fastforwardthinkers' and doers (is that a word?) ready to take on the world to a new level. Not because we want to bash the existing systems, but because we believe there's better out there and we are in control of creating just that. I love it! So big thanks to for introducing me to Steemit & Busy.
I am Rianne, Dutchie living in Bali and passionate about changing our business systems into a model where not just a few shareholders benefit but pretty much everyone in the ecosystem of that business. Some call it social enterprises, some call it conscious capitalism, I am still debating all of them as none of them feel "it" yet. Why label something when we're still figuring things out, right? Recently I am becoming more and more interested in what blockchain can do to create social impact. As I don’t understand the coding side of it, I hope that together we can create user-friendly language so that we can move forward on the adoption scale. I love to be a part of that!
Another passion is the future of education. Somehow we got our educational system stuck in the post world war way of thinking of batch-producing and mostly not taking into account the individual human beings that are in those classrooms. Also, for some reason, our educational systems seem to (largely) forget that we have the internet now and most things can be researched as opposed to being hammered in the short term memory for testing purposes only. I am passionate about developing a curriculum and school "system" where we teach kids resilience, flexibility, collaboration and a more holistic way of looking at subjects, making use of all the advanced technologies there are. Please don't start bashing me now, there are AMAZING examples already out there and I root for them all, let's work to make them mainstream asap!
In 2016 I changed my life around, I was a successful business owner serving traditional corporate clients with customer centricity "challenges" when I realized I was unhappy and felt a strong "what am I doing this all for"? I decided to take a sabbatical, flew to Perth, bought a 4WD with a rooftop tent and a plan to travel around Australia.
Well... long story short: I hated it haha. It was so incredibly lonely, my god, West Australia is gorgeous but also very empty.. (yeah, I kind of knew that, but hey, until you've been there you can't really envision it). Anyway, after 7 weeks, I threw in the towel and left for Bali. There I became part of the big digital nomad community, many being forward-thinkers and I found my tribe. A group of people questioning the status quo and working on a better version of life for themselves and others including our planet.
I decided to stick around and start something new. I left my business in NL in the trusted hands of my colleagues, rented out my home and stayed in Bali. I set up a new business to connect social impact entrepreneurs with business mentors and now working on an online business "school" for changemakers a.k.a. social entrepreneurs a.k.a. business owners that contribute to solving social or environmental injustices by means of creating a business.
Last year has been my most amazing year ever and from the looks of it, 2018 will be even better. Looking forward to passionate debates here on the future of our current social-economic models, blockchain for social impact & education and just life. Would love to do that in the most respectful way, different perspectives are what makes us better together! If you are working on projects around blockchain for social impact or education, let me know please, as I am eager to learn and contribute!
Hug, Rianne
