The Association of Scouts of Venezuela (ASV) is an institution that, through a system of non-formal education, contributes to the integral development of young people through the Scout Method and following the parameters left by Robert Baden-Powell.
History
The ASV had its beginnings in the year 1913, with the hand of Ramón Ocando Pérez, in the city of Maracaibo (Zulia). These beginnings occurred since Ocando Pérez traveled to Curacao in 1912; And in Punda he observed some Boy Scouts who were making a march, to the beat of a band. He confused them with the military, but in reality they were uniformed boys called Pathfinders. He received much attention, and when he returned from his trip, he referred what he had seen to a friend of Colombian nationality. This friend gave him a printed edition in English of the Children's Explorers' Handbook of America, which had been published in 1910.
From there, the first experience of sculpture was given in Venezuela, was founded the troupe number one of San Sebastián, that is the first troop of Venezuela with five patrols. This first attempt was made on January 20, 1913, and said that the troops adopted the name because it is the day of that saint, in addition to that it adopted the green color in the handkerchief because it means hope.
In 1916 this troupe was reorganized and it was in charge of helping Ramon Ocando Perez and Francisco Mac Gregor to realize that it was a retired officer of the English Navy called Walter Raleigh Douglas, that is considered the first chief of Troy officially and took the Date Of 27 of May of 1917 like date of beginning of this stage.
After other experiences Escultistas, where groups formed in Caracas (Tropa San Jorge), and in other cities, in 1934 formed the Federation of Boy Scouts (Explorers) of Venezuela. By express mandate of the Scout National Assembly realized during 1958, the Federation changed its name by the present one of the Association of Scouts of Venezuela.
He has been recognized by the World Organization of the Scout Movement (OMMS) since the year 1937.
