Hi Stemians. I am overwhelmed with excitement to finally get the chance to write and meet people here. My travel buddy and fellow volunteer only have good words for this very engaging media platform thus she invited me in.
Jessette is the name my parents gave me but I am known for my nickname “ Setti” just because it is easier especially for my Korean and Japanese students to pronounce. I came from a small town in Leyte and practically spent my childhood years in a remote barangay with a very conservative culture. When I was sixteen, I moved to Cebu City and studied at the University of San Carlos. I graduated with a degree in Bachelor of Arts major in Political Science and Bachelor of Laws.Since I graduated from Law School, I taught English in three different ESL schools and worked for a Non-Government Organization before I decided to become a public servant.Last year, I finished my Master's Degree in Public Administration from the Southwestern University-Phinma.
What I do for a living:)
Currently, I work for the Philippine Government and is practicing Disaster Risk Reduction and Management. Our agency espouses disaster risk reduction through disaster preparedness, prevention and mitigation. We also manage the impact of disasters and facilitate immediate response mechanism when disaster strikes the country. Sounds heavy??? Yes it is. However, I believe that if a person works with his or her heart in it, nothing would seem difficult. When you love what you do, everything is just like a walk in the park.
Wait! there’s more... I do have a part-time job. I teach English online four times a week just because teaching for me is LIFE. I also do a lot of volunteer work such as feeding sessions, advocacy campaigns and so on. My heart really finds joy in actively participating in different programs for a cause. For me, nothing could be more rewarding than being able to share your life in service to others. It is something that outlasts life.
What I love:)
I love spending time with my only son. We both love to play badminton. Apart from that, I love to shop for clothes, shoes and bags and travel to places I’ve never been. Shopping gives me so much comfort and travel gives me stress relief. When I don’t shop and travel, a good book and a cup of coffee will do. I also have a penchant for food. I love to cook pasta and my son said I make the best penne pesto pasta in the universe.
My Mantra:)
Seize each day. Entertain positive vibes only. Be grateful always. Aim for a life of success and relevance.
What I see myself in the next five years:)
God-willing, I’ll be a full-pledged lawyer in 2020 and an influential disaster risk reduction and management advocate. A person with an upgraded tech skills.
What I expect here at steemit:)
To be able to meet new friends who not only love life but is willing to share it through this platform.
