Hey Steemit World,
My name is Derek and at the time of me writing this post, I am 37 years old and a full-time single dad. My son, Tyler, is 3 years old.
It wasn't until I had my son that I think i truly pushed myself to start fixing my life, because now I had a little person counting on me and I couldn't bear to ever let him down.
Having lived on my own my entire adult life, I have been through so much over the years. I have had ups, downs, thrills, tragedies , and have downright struggled at times. As I am rapidly approaching 40 years old, I have been doing a lot of self-reflecting lately.
I've realized that aside from just learning from my mistakes and growing as a person, that I can provide a lot of insight to people out there who are going through things that I have gone through. So I've decided to join this community to share my life experiences and hopefully help people learn how to deal with difficult situations and life. I have always joked with my friends that I should write a book titled "Don't Be Like Me: What NOT to do in life" LoL, but that never came to fruition.
So in my coming posts i'm going to be sharing some insight into who I am, what I go through on a daily basis, and what I've gone through in my life. I'll also be sharing some of my hobbies and passions, because I think it will be really great to connect and share with people who are into the same things as me. I love raising my son, I love Music (including playing guitar - and I'm JUST learning to sing) , I love cooking, health and fitness, sports, and I'm just now starting to get into martial arts and meditation. I know it might seem like i'm having a mid-life crisis with all of those interests - lol , but I'm just trying to spend my time now living life to it's fullest.
I've wasted a lot of time doing things that weren't enjoyable, or productive, but there is this great big world out there full of wonder and I want to teach my son how to make the most of it.
I hope you've enjoyed getting to learn a little bit about me, and I hope you'll enjoy what I have to share in the future.
Here's to an awesome day, week, month, and year.
