Hello Steemers.... thanks for having me! Here's an introduction and a poem called, 'Live your life!'
I like keeping diaries, even though I abandoned writing mine a few years ago, which made me feel disappointed - especially after recently discovering some old childhood journals - which when reading through made me cringe, laugh & cry, along with a few “Eeeek’s!" Sound familiar?
So, I'm back with a new diary platform, ready to share and hear your thoughts!
A bit about me.
I’m known to friends as Sonny, from the masculine word Son. ‘Sonny’ an endearing term for a young boy or sometimes used with a hint of a demeaning tone to let a man know you are displeased with their opinion or behaviour, "Look here Sonny, that's just not good enough" - a phrase I did hear a lot as I grew up!
I grew up often being mistaken for a boy. I don't really remember correcting anyone - maybe it was just too embarrassing with an added fear it would only draw further attention to an already shy & insecure kid who got teased a lot. At dance class I was always asked to take the male role and lead the girls. The reality is I’m very much a girl with a hint of tomboy now by choice.
So to clear up, my name is Sonny, rhymes with Bonny - so that's the introductions done for now.
Why am I here?
I'm here as my world has changed & changing sometimes without my consent it seems - I had been unable to find my way recently due to various lifestyle changes, maybe unconsciously allowing & giving permission to be again mistakenly identified or misjudged, forgetting to stand proud, or maybe I adopted the easier to keep quiet mode from my childhood.
I have left a job of 16 years…I am now officially freelance - so another new journey in itself.. I found the above mentioned childhood scolding and disapproval of "look here Sonny, thats just not good enough" had crept back into the present day only thankfully this time it was MY VOICE saying it's not good enough.
So that's why I'm here to share "Stand up Sonny" the journey of rebuilding, sharing renewed past loves & interests, my travel experiences, my joys of embracing the simple things & one of my new found ways of expressing myself through poetry.
I have no idea the poetry is any good, I'll let you be the critics - I'm just happy to be able to share...
Along with this I love gardening, the solidness of land & DIY & changing things up.
After a friend saw a London bus driver wave at me and beep his horn while overtaking me on my bicycle, she now calls me the ‘Bridget Jones’ of London.
I’m not sure she’s right.
I do love people
I do love my area of London under the planes of passengers bound for or leaving Heathrow airport, I love Britain as a whole.
I Intend to share my stories in this big city with you.....so hopefully you will enjoy my posts of my journey of getting back to living life The Sonic Way.
Below is a poem, recently written at a time I was unable to express myself in another way.
Hope you enjoy.
Would love to hear back from you and your thoughts.
See you soon!
Love Sonic Sonny
