Hello, World!
So I'd like to introduce myself to the Steemit community. I've decided to keep my real identity anonymous at the moment, but that may change in the future once I feel comfortable with the community and the platform. I have heard nothing but good things about both so I am ready to jump in head first!
So I'm going by the handle Steemling. I've no idea why I chose that name, I just thought it sounded kind of funny!
So about me. I think that I am a pretty stereotypical Generation Xer in that I was raised by ex-hippies and spent most of my childhood running wild in the streets. We were ridiculously poor, but I managed to find all kinds of things to keep myself occupied. I did get lucky at one point at age 7 when my grandmother bought me a $100 Atari 800xl computer which I plugged up to an ancient black and white TV. I say lucky because Grandma happened to work at a K-Mart and got it super discounted at a blue light special.
I mention this because it was kind of a critical point in my childhood. Basically I have spent most of my programming computers and fascinated by technology in general. A few years before the Internet became a thing, I ran a Bulletin Board System in my small town that became pretty popular for a while. Of course then the Internet blew up, which kind of wiped out the whole BBS scene.
Oh, I'd also like to mention that I am a big proponent of Vipassana meditation. It is the real deal! That is why I use the navigation wheel (Wheel of Dhamma) as my avatar.
I think like a lot of people, I got interested in Steemit because of the rise of cryptocurrency. But after spending some time thinking about it, I am really more attracted to this new form of social media and the type of community that it is attracting. One thing that I find fascinating on here is the apparent thoughtfulness that many put into their posts and comments. I feel like this is a direct result of the upvote/flag system. It adds something of a consequence to one's actions; just like in the real world!
Anyhow, I am really looking forward to engaging with this wonder group of diverse people from around the world and seeing what I can do to contribute as a curator and a content creator! Thanks for your love and support Steemit!
