Ahoy Everyone!!
I found this site by happenstance (or through the LOA depending on what you're open to). Shout out to @BluePanda's post on "Boredom" or I would not have found this community. I browsed thoroughly before joining and the content creators here are all quite neat!
I invite you to check out my profile, and to read through my intro here. My favourite things are: going shooting, having picnics, and seeing lectures. I'm a mountain woman at heart (you should see me stoke a fire), and a huge intellectual. I love learning and having new experiences; a life unexplored is not worthwhile.
I’m a fangsmith (acrylic veneers) and sculptural artist that is med school bound. A couple of my paintings hang in local businesses. Studied neuroscience at my old school, and sculpture/chem at my current one. I also work as a freelance event planner and do marketing & PR for a shoe store. I just turned 22 as well (yay!).
My work as an artist has been geared toward building the body of a composition entitled: "Cultural Dissident, or Cognitive Dissonance"; It is an interdisciplinary body of work commenting on contemporary American socio-political issues. It highlights disparities between the classes, races, and genders, as well as political corruption and military involvement. The principal painting, “In Dire Distress,” unfinished, was featured in the Cultural section of the Hilltop newspaper in April 2017. The full body is multidisciplinary and features work from each style of studio art I’ve taken a course in including ceramic sculptures and paintings. (if you're inclined, check out my artist website: http://copperdiadem.com)
My favourite sport, contemporarily, is hockey. I don’t have a favourite team yet tho (leaning toward Colorado Avalanche). I haven’t spent time playing sports in about a year but I row, play volleyball, and do martial arts when time and finances permit. Rowing is probably my favourite sport of all that I have tried. It is something I aim to reintegrate into my daily life as soon as I am able to.
I love music. I recently made a soundcloud to post music on, but I haven't really made much content yet. I'll put out a beacon when something fascinating is up! I used to artist manage; my favourite part of event planning is booking artists. I love metal but I dip into all genres. I’m big on classic country/western as well. Recently i've been working on learning to yodel. If i could ever yodel even half as well as someone like Franzl Lang my life would not have been in vain.
I recently picked up violin and guitar again. I’m teaching myself different styles than that which I initially learned (classical). For violin I’m learning the carnatic style. The tuning sounds worlds better in my opinion. I look forward to my progress in that. Not sure where I’m going with guitar tho. I planned on doing some metal music this time around but I might take time to learn some country standards- especially since I’ve been teaching myself to yodel (thanks YouTube- A special shutout to Beth Williams whose video's made it easy to get a foothold into the art).
Stay tuned for some poetry, writing, artwork, and videos. All headed your way soon.
Cheers,
TheCaptain%
