I am now able to say: Hello fellow Steemians! Feels good and the water is fine but I do feel like a very small fish in a GREAT BIG pond.
When I first signed up it took 3 days to get my authorization which turned out to be a blessing indeed. This gave me time to stroll leisurely through the many profiles, their posts, comments, replies, countless topics and the absolutely priceless videos that can help anyone find their way.
Sometimes the answer was there before I actually knew I had a question :)
I have spent quite some time on FB, met some great people, was provided with research material, stayed updated with the current REAL news from alternative news networks and was able to assist in the coordination of information and resources with many groups, organizations and individuals. Recently however, with censorship by that particular social network, YouTube and Google it has become rather frustrating.
While tossing the idea to search for another venue which could provide an ability to share information a post appeared on my wall.
BINGO! Universal synchronicity is alive and well. As any good researcher will tell you, the first priority is to check out the source. This particular post was from a Steemit member on a subject that resonated with me.
Honestly I had never even thought to venture into something like "cryptocurrency" and didn't really know what it was about. I saw the term BitCoin and quickly recognized it only because I'd seen some headlines and talked with others that were mining the stuff. Virtual money? What a joke! Reminded me of some sort of video game. Not something I'd want to "waste" my time with. WRONG again, silly me.
Like I said, that 3 day wait to be authorized was a BLESSING!
I had time to venture through the news on this "CRYPTOCURRENCY" stuff. First thing that jumped out at me was the fact that so many seemingly smart people were actually promoting it. Second thing was seeing that the market/industry was growing exponentially. Third was the fact that cyrptocurrency was not really unlike the US Dollar that we all know is not backed by anything either. The fourth realization was the one that helped me recognize that we are the change we have been waiting for.......GET AWAY FROM CENTRAL BANKS! The fifth and final straw and the proverbial "icing on the cake" was an article I read covering a speech by the Managing Director of the IMF, Christine Lagarde.
Christine Lagarde stated:
"Virtual currencies are in a different category, because they provide their own unit of account and payment systems. These systems allow for peer-to-peer transactions without central clearinghouses, without central banks. "
I am a big proponent of the "pay for performance" model and I see that quality and potential here at Steemit. The platform is so different from what I am accustomed to but with a little tenacity I think it offers a great opportunity for me and many others in a multitude of ways.
Steemit works quite well for those investing their time in sharing information, interacting with others, identifying resources that contribute to the greater good and simply making the world a better place.
My focus for a very long time now has been to assist in creating a more Fully Informed Public. I believe that many people have been so misinformed and disinformed through the paid-for-scripts and marketing coming from Mainstream Media they simply have not the ability to make informed choices on some of the most critical issues facing them today.
Working together we can truly create a Main Steem Media that can and will work towards a better world.
