I am a mom and a homeschooler, among so many other things. I, myself, was homeschooled when my mother realized that the school system was not doing its job. I was in 7th grade when I came home with a math word problem I could not figure out. My 5-year-old sister looked over my mother's shoulder and had the problem figured out before my mother did. That was all she wrote. My mom homeschooled us from that point on. I was 15 and my sister was 10 when we started college. My sister graduated with an M.D./Ph.D. when she was 21 and works as an oncologist for USC medical center. As of today, my sister has been a physician for more than half her life. Homeschooling works. It honors the child. I am now pursuing an Ed.D. in education so that I can contribute to turning the educational tide in this country, and give learning back to the parents, and above all, the children - where it belongs. I am working as a homeschool coach to support and advise other parents who want to give this gift to their babies. I look forward to engaging with other members of steemit and making a positive, substantive contribution to the community.
