Hey y'all,
Thanks for welcoming me to the Steemit community. Whilst this may be my introductory post, it's not my first post. A quick rifle through my feed and you'll see a couple of brief #ComicBook reviews; you guessed it, I'm interested in comics. Far from a noob, I have been collecting and reading comics for decades and all that passion (and knowledge) has just been bottled up inside. Well it's time to explode and let it all out!
...well, at least some of it!
I mainly read comics digitally because of the headache of storage - either maintaining paper in pristine condition or sourcing additional Gbs is a nightmare. I do purchase collected editions though. As you can see from Dark Knight: The Master Race, (DKIII) book above, they look even more awesome on your coffee table. π€
What am I doing here and what is #Bo0gieReviews #Comics π
I'll be reviewing what I read for your pleasure, discernment and amusement. I have a penchant for #Marvel, simply because I relate to the real places and 'humanity' of their people and places, rather than fictional one's which ironically, seems to make their stories more fantastical to me. No fear, you'll also find (some) stuff from #DC, #Image, #DarkHorse and others here too.
I review concurrent issues in a series, notable issues or special editions in a #SpoilerFree way. I review in a way that takes into account you have some working knowledge of the characters or storyline. I don't do too much exposition or history, but will be innocuous and entertaining...unless I believe, that the issue is simply $ΒΆΒ‘Β₯. In which case, I won't say much and prolly recommend not reading any further. (Unless I'm really into the character or story, then I may just plough through).
What will you see here π ππΎ
You won't find screen grabs of entire issues, you may not even find an image that illustrates the core narrative; what you will find however, is one or two choice panels that I feel are particularly poignant;
Providing awesome (and hilarious) dialogue;
Or are simply beautiful pieces of art.
Where possibile, I will credit the authors, artists, colourists or simply provide a link to the full book so that you can share the joy of comics...or read to challenge my view of it altogether!
What do the numbers mean? π€
When I review a book, it will have its edition numbered (#14), sometimes the year the series started (2017 -) and finally a review score out of five stars (5/5π). They usually equate to
1/5 π = "bin this" - "discontinue reading anything else by this production team" - "avoid at all costs".
2/5 π = "nothing original or creative here" - "this was put out because they had a contract to fulfil" - "probably off my pull list".
3/5 π = "standard fare" - "did what they were supposed to do" - "let's hope it picks up next issue".
4/5 π= "this what I read for" - "very good scripting and art direction" - "subscribed because I don't want to miss an issue"
5/5 π = "this is what you can do in this medium that you can't anywhere else" - "superlative storyline and artwork" - "LπVE this"
Whilst a book may consistently rate 3/5 π it will need to rate 4/5 π for me to continue to invest time and money in the book. Generally if the score doesn't pick up, then it's "buh-bye". Sometimes a book eeks out an additional nought point five score:
3.5 /5 π β "you've done enough to save you from the bin" - "the art would have made it a 4"
4.5 /5 πβ "I'm really, really enjoying this" - "the story's so good, why'd they change the author / artist?"
Hopefully that's clearer than mud..? π
You mentioned "Kick Foot", what's that mean?
A colloquialism for martial arts, both the practice and appreciation of. I may occasionally regale y'all with a tale of my experience or something appreciated.
I love music with kicks too; implied and otherwise. An original 5 Elements of Hip Hop aficionado too, you'll see stuff about the art, culture and sounds that shaped and continue to influence the world around me.
And there you have it! I'd love to hear from you if you read comics or not or generally interested and want some tips, especially since the latest Hollywood film splurge has piqued your interest:
