Many of you including myself played magic cards as a kid. Some even got into MTG in the Alpha/Beta/Unlimited editions and may still have a Black Lotus or 2 still at home tucked away. An Alpha Black Lotus in Near Mint to Mint condition goes for $20,000 USD.
Well if you have any cards from the first 1 to 2 years you are probably sitting on $10,000 USD which is awesome. Magic the gathering has taken off in the last few years and shows no signs of slowing down. It is true there are a lot more editions but holding the old ones has turned into a great investment. Consider this back around 1997 a Black Lotus went for $350 CDN now it goes for $26,000 CDN (In great condition). There was even a sale a few years back where a guy paid $70,000 USD for a Mint condition Black Lotus.
Now you guys might be saying psssf its a black lotus, super rare. But pretty much any rare card from the Alpha edition (first edition) goes for over $1,000 USD. Even regular land cards go for over $10 bucks. Dual lands go for over $2,000 USD.
Underground Sea is going for $45,000 USD on eBay http://www.ebay.com/itm/MTG-Magic-BGS-9-5-Alpha-Underground-Sea-9-5-9-5-10-10-QUAD-/182300810432?hash=item2a71f99cc0:g:23sAAOSw8gVX8a3S
Now why do I think they are a good investment?
Most people were players and wanted to beat the other person in the first turn in a black deck with black lotuses. So the condition of most cards is not the best. As time goes on and the game gets more and more popular and people get older and have more disposable income, these cards will continue to go up in value. Its almost like the now 30 year olds forgot the game in their 20s and are now going back to it.
