Recently I was in an IRC chat room on the Freenode network. The chat room was called ##chat and I had run into some issues with the founder of the channel. There I was with nothing I could do. I had pissed off the one guy who had ultimate control over my stay in the channel and he didn't like me. At any moment he could drop the ban hammer on me and I would be done for. In fact I've actually been banned from this channel once before. But after awhile as time passed the ban was lifted. The feeling of being banned was horrible. I wanted to follow the rules and not become someone that deserved to be banned. This admin just had it in for me and I was just one wrong sentence away from not being allowed to use the channel any more.
He told me that I had admitted to crimes in the channel and that he was now obligated to report me to the authorities. We had a misunderstanding in the chat room and he didn't know what he was talking about. I even showed him official documentation about my case and he wasn't satisfied. It felt horrible knowing that this guy who had all the administrative powers to kick or ban me from the channel was now going to up-end my life simply because he just wouldn't let things go. With all the trouble I found in that channel on that network. I realized that there were actually many other networks that I could check out. I decided to leave on good terms and found the IRC channel that 4chan uses and so far I haven't had any issues with censorship or administrators who have ego issues.
