At the link is an extended and uninterrupted excerpt from a recent interview that Russell Brand did with Dr. Gabor Mate... on the subject of the Palestinian and Israeli dilemma/disaster/genocide.
Those of you familiar with Mate’s work, know he is a man of deep compassion and subtlety of though, who brings great professional passion to the healing of personal trauma.
This is a beautiful segment and it speaks I think quite directly to the larger situation in which we all find ourselves at the present moment.
So much of our past seems to be coming back lately to haunt us in immediate and visceral ways, and while we need to retain our blessed sense of humor, there is also much as well that needs to be witnessed and understood at its truly tragic roots.
And if we do not do that in a fully conscious way, we are all the more likely not simply to repeat those horrors of the past, but to even exceed them… both in terms of pain and human cruelty, but also possibly in terms of genocidal death.
The sins of the past are buried and belong now to history, however much we know that such history has been scrubbed and revised to serve the purposes of those in power.
The sins of the present however belong to each and everyone of us and require our quick and perceptive understanding before they can be acknowledged, addressed and possibly forgiven.
