This is one part of Tachikawa. It use to be an old military town because of Yokota airbase nearby, but has turned into a hot spot in Eastern Tokyo. The city center has grown to become one of the largest in outer Tokyo. It even boasts an IKEA and yes, it is exactly like an IKEA in the US, except you park on the roof!
There is a lot to do in Tachikawa. It has good restaurants, tons of shopping centers and all around the city center are interesing sculptures. If you are in Japan it is definitely worth a visit, if just to go to the IKEA!
