Hello, welcome to the 4th part of Japanese counting!
Today we're going to count big animals.
Animals who are bigger than us like elephants, horses, cows are included in this category.
In this method, you have to add one of these suffixes とう(toū) t the end of the number.
1 - いっとう(ittoū)
2 - にとう(nitoū)
3 - さんとう(santoū)
4 - よんとう(yontoū)
5 - ごとう(gotoū)
6 - ろくとう(rokutoū)
7 - なとう(nantoū)
8 - はっとう(hattoū)
9 - きゅうとう(kyutoū)
10 - じゅっとう(juttoū)
To numbers over 10, you just have to add suffix to the end of the number.
For an example, 18 is じゅういち (jū ichi). So 18 small animals are counted as じゅういっとう (jū ittoū).
Let's make a simple sentence.
どうぶつえんにぞうがごとういます。There are 5 elephants in the zoo.
(doubutsuen ni zou ga gotoū imasu)
