Last summer, when I went to my grandmother's house, I got kimono and belt my grandfather wore a long time ago.
They have been in closets for a long time, and there was a "Heko obi" in that.
I used it when I wear a yukata at the summer festival.
"Heko obi" is a soft belt and it is used for ordinary kimono or yukata.
A young man of Satsuma(Kagoshima prefecture) is called "Heko".Since they were wearing this belt, they call it "Heko obi". "Obi"means a belt for kimono.
At the end of the Edo period(1603-1868), Satuma samurai wore Western military uniform and "Heko obi", and put a sword there.
Now,when you wear it,it looks like more casual.So it is suitable for wearing in the summer.
A good point of kimonos and belts is that they can be reused even for old ones.
昨年の夏、母の実家に行った際、祖父が昔使っていた着物や帯を頂きました。
長い間しまってあった物ですが、その中に兵児帯(へこおび)があったので、夏祭りで浴衣を着る時に締めてみました。

兵児帯はやわらかい帯で、普段の着物や浴衣に使います。絞りが入っているのが特徴です。
薩摩の若い男性を「兵児（へこ）」と呼びましたが、彼らがこの帯を締めていたので、兵児帯と呼びます。
幕末期、薩摩藩士は洋装に兵児帯を締め、そこに刀を挿していたいたそうです。
それ以前は浴衣に角帯を締めていましたが、兵児帯だと崩した感じになり、夏に向いています。
着物や帯は古くても再活用できるのが良いですね。
