A guiding hand
Some call it destiny, and others predestination, or God’s guiding hand. Whatever it was, it has led me to where I am now. I couldn’t quite say what some of the events in my life were, some of memories and experiences are more vivid than others.
I remember when I was about 4 years old I was at a water park when there were Killer whales swimming around in a pool and I was speaking to and Old man, I can’t remember exactly what I was talking about with him but I do remember that he said I wasn’t able to stay here and it was time for me to go. He showed me to this chute and opened the lid and said I had to go in here. The next thing I remember was that I was coming through the ceiling of my bedroom and into my bed where I could see myself lying on the bed.
I think from this time forth I had something in my subconscious guiding me forward and I was always aware of things that I just couldn’t explain, but I just couldn’t put my finger on it. I would say it was a dream, but I have some form of premonitions and on several occasions my dreams have come true.
I think one of the most notable and more frightening moments was again in my bedroom, I must have woken up through the middle of the night and I was looking out to the end of my room which at that time people had to walk through and had connecting doors on either side of the room. I remember as if it were yesterday the room starting to fill with smoke when a large dark hooded figure with a black panther like cat on a chain walked into the room from my right hand side and walked forward and walk into the room and stopped straight in front of me, the dark figure turned his head to the left and stared at me for what seemed five minutes with the panther looking straight ahead he then slowly turned his head forward and proceeded to walk out of the room and the smoke subsided. I often doubt myself but even to this date I remember it so vividly I often wonder what happened.
I wouldn’t say my family was religious, however I remember going to Sunday school for a while, when I was about 9 years old I remember having an awareness of God and one of the dreams that I had involved a big battle in what I remember was Israel and I was standing on top of a wall and it was a fight between Jews, Muslims and Christians.
From that time, I had a conviction to go to church and have a closeness with God as well as having some sort of inclination to going to the Middle East, or Israel at least. I know it seems weird and especially for a 9-year-old, but if I knew what I know now it would have made perfect sense to me.
After that I went onto University and completed my degree, as I mentioned before I have had numerous dreams which had come true and the first one happened when I was at University. One night I had had a dream in which I was driving the car of my then girlfriend and had an accident and was damaged. The very next night we were needing something from the shop. I went to go to the car and I found a couple one boy and girl trying to rip the go faster stripes of the car with a screw driver stupidly I chased after them and I caught the girl but the boyfriend came back and I eventually let the girl go and let them go on their way.
The second time I had a dream again about my car was just after I had qualified from Uni. I had travelled down to my friend’s house in England and I arrived on the Thursday night and I woke up the next morning and I told my friend I had dreamt I had my car stolen but I found it down the alley at the side of the house, but fortunately I woke up to find it still there. That night being a Friday we went out to a bar, and caught a taxi back and my friend told me where is your car gone. I told him to shut up because I thought he was having a laugh at me about my dream I had the night before, but true enough it had gone, I was too drunk to do anything at that time and so I left it until the morning to sort it all out. So anyway, I had to go sort out something to get back home so I said to my friend lets go and get a hire car for me to go and get back home, I remember driving through some traffic lights and I saw my car driving in the opposite direction. I shouted, “that’s my car” to my friend who quickly turned around and we started following the car. We called the police at one point to let them know we had found the car and we would let them know where we were. So anyway, a long story short we ended up finding the car along a side street and I could get the car back home despite having to use a screwdriver to start it up.
A year, or so had passed and I had seen in my medical journal a vacancy for a job in Qatar. I didn’t know where it was however being young I thought why not and applied and several months later I was offered an opportunity to come out and do a Locum and the rest is history, it seems destiny has destined for me to come out to the Middle East and here I am. I have now been living in Qatar for 16 years, where I met my wife and have two kids. When I think back and remember the things that have gone on in my life and the direction it taken me I cannot just sit back in wonder who had been leading me on this path.
