Jesus gives us a beautiful beatitude about the word of God: "But even more blessed are all who hear the Word of God and put it into practice", Luke 11:28
Jesus in this scripture on faith tells us about those who are truly blessed, although this beatitude is not in the sermon on the mount, it is a summary of them. Jesus doesn't teach us what is the prize for living the Word, remember that the beatitudes are promises.
But there is another text that suggest the prize: "You study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life." John 5:39
The prize for living the Word of God is the contemplative activity, the knowledge of god: "This is the eternal life, that they may know you the only true god" John 17:3
The Word of God is eternal and uncreated, this is explained at the beginning of the gospel of John:
"In the beginning was he Word
and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God.
He was with God in the beginning.
Through him all things were made;
without him nothing was made that has been made.
In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. John 1:1-3
Jesus also personifies the Word of God: "I am the door", John 10:9, also "I am the bread of life", John 6:34, Jesus is "son of man".
The importance of listening and living the Word of God is explained in the parable of the sower:
"The seed is the Word of God. Those along the path are the ones who hear, and then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, so that they may not believe and be saved. Those on the rocky ground are the ones who receive the word with joy when they hear it, but they have no root. They believe for a while, but in the time of testing they fall away. The seed that fell among thorns stands for those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by life's worries, riches and pleasure, and they do not mature. But the seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, retain it, and by persevering produce a crop." Luke 8:4-15.
The perseverance and constancy in listening and practicing the Word is the path to spiritual illumination.
