Jesus explains that the works of men resemble the fruits of the trees: "For there is no good tree which produces bad fruit, nor, on the other hand, a bad tree which produces good fruit. For each tree is known by its own fruits" Luke 6:43-44
Jesus in the bible explain to us that there are two ways, two mentalities, two retributions. We have to choose between the spirit and the flesh, the good and the evil, once we choose the path we reap the retributions. The fruits of the trees are the ultimate goals of life.
The retributions, the works of the flesh and the fruits of the spirit, are explained in the epistle to the Galatians:
"The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissension, factions and envy, drunkenness, orgies and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law"; Galatians 5:19-23.
The two ways or paths are explained in the parable of the good samaritan Luke 10:25-37, we sin like the levite and the priest or we live righteously like the good samaritan, the good samaritan acts according to the golden rule (do unto others as you would them do unto you):
"A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by the other side. So too, a levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by the other side. But a samarithan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. He went to him and bandage him wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him. The next day he took out two denarii and gave them into the innkeeper. "Look after him" he said, "and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have"
Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of the robbers?"
