To be children again, this is what our Lord Jesus requested of men when he was physically on earth, because this is the great secret that the Kingdom of God hides; the Kingdom of Heaven is not only an ethical doctrine but also a doctrine of spiritual mysteries. And this is so because it is only through a new spiritual childhood that we can perceive the spiritual realities with the mind and thus receive the spiritual gift of eternal life (contemplative activity): "Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit" John 3:5.
In Christianity, just as there is a baptism with water for the forgiveness of sins, there is also a baptism according to the fire to receive the holy spirit, and it is this spirit that makes us children again: "Everyone will be salted with fire" Mark 9:49. The Kingdom of God, the dominion or empire of God's perfections, is progressive, edifying, gradual, and benevolent like the worm that transforms into a butterfly or the bare tree that sprouts, flourishes, and bears fruit. It is true that all these teachings do not make sense to those who do not fear God, but it is an undeniable reality that if we do not make a change of heart, the world cannot be transformed and improved.
The Gospel of Mark tells us of a beautiful moment in which Jesus met some little children, Jesus metaphorically set them as an example to follow for those who seek the blessings of the kingdom, with these words the gospel recounts the encounter:
"People were bringing little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them, but the disciples rebuked them. When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, ´Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.´ And he took the children in his arms, placed his hands on them and blessed them." Mark 10:13-16.
