Last night the rain was so intense, it literally rained sideways. Not having windows in our house at this moment feels like the worse call I've made in a decade, and that is saying something.
A mist caressed our blankets making everything wet and cold. The rain finally stopped around 6am, in time to welcome the sunlight and the hope that a branch had not decided to damage a roof. The loud smacking against the zinc echoed way too many times through the night, and that's never a good sign.
The farm looks more like a swamp at this point. All the trees are under a foot of water, and there are parts of the farm that have become inaccesible for me. The path that leads to my shop requires a canoe, and lucky for me, we don't own one.
At any rate, I'm not going to sit at home and do nothing, so I'm going to work on writing. What else can I do? What else should I do?
What matter is that my family and pups are safe, and that we are lucky to not have lost power. Lucky because as far as I can tell my nextdoor neighbor is minecrafting his way through an otherwise common Wednesday.
Hopefully in an hour or two I can go into town with our old power generator for a quick fix. I tried starting it two days ago finding that the gasoline hose had been compromised-- Maybe mice.
Fun times, fun times indeed.
