A few things I saw this week
The Wet Lands View
A similar picture was shared this week for a #mountainmonday post. In this image you can see the walkway out to the small viewing platform and I did do a little bit more photo editing on this one. I like how it almost has a pastel kind of look to it.
On the same outing to wildlife viewing area I got to get a few pictures of a couple of pigeons. I was going to share some more of them yesterday, but we got duck shots, so they made the #featheredfriday post. I did share a shot of them in another post but one can never take just one picture of a bird , any bird. So here is a close up cropped out and resized from the original.
A sunset View
On Monday the 15th we had a pretty nice sunset, not really enough time to run to the beach and get a shot. A good thing we did not try, because the sunset colors did not last that long.
Detour Ahead
It is road work season in Alaska, the first road closure of the season, the first detour of the season, and the first extension of the closure and detour. It was supposed to be from April 5th through April 12th. They extended the closure by ten (10) days. A happy coincidence for us, since we rarely take the long way into town.
Caribou
We rarely get to see the caribou along side and so close to the road. There were two of them here, I did not get any shots showing both of the, one got spooked by a vehicle and took off into the woods.
On our way back home there was a small grouping of them that my wife got pictures of, but I did not get any shots on the return trip. It was rather surprising that they were still in the same general area,
The Ducks have started to arrive
Yes these are the same ducks that got featured in #featheredfriday post kicking the poor pigeon to the curb. This first one is the very first shot of the ducks. I did not even get out of the car because I knew they would be splitting as soon as they saw people. So it is a little blurry, and not very sharp, but the photo edit software does do the picture justice.
They started to swim away from the shore as soon as we pulled down to the river. I was still able to get some pictures though.
it did not take them long to get airborne and start a low fly over the waters.
Winter's Still Here
Well only in the sense that it is still cold at night, and that there is still a chance of snow. We did get some snow Friday evening about 2 hours after we got back inside the house. There was still a little bit on the car this morning, but it is pretty much gone now. It was silver dollar sized very wet snow flakes.
It was a nice week of variety, wetlands, mountains, birds, sunsets, caribou, and snow. We almost always complain about detours and roadwork projects, with out this simple little detour we would have missed out on the caribou, or maybe not, they may have been in the road work area also or along the closed section of the road, but that is only a maybe. This was a good detour.
I hope you enjoyed the imagery.
