I was a student at Lower Manhattan Outreach high school. Our counselor called me into the office for a meeting. She said that I should go to college. I was planning on becoming a mailman. My counselor said that I needed to go to college. She helped me fill out the paper work. I was a good writer and I liked politics, so I applied to schools with journalism programs. I traveled to Kingsborough Community College to take entry exams. I failed the math test by 1 point and the writing exam. I was depressed, it didn’t make sense to be good at writing in one place and bad at another place. I took remedial classes where I learned to write with structure. I don’t use those structures anymore because we are becoming a non-literate society with a short attention span. I took a three-day math session. I passed the exams on the second try. I learned that independent study is better than rigid control. The head of the English department at KCC wanted to tell me in person how much he enjoyed my essay. I went back to the writing teacher at my high school to find out why she didn’t teach me structure. She said that she had to spend more time on the children that could not write at all. I learned that the American school system was not beneficial for black people. This is why I developed the Freedom School with my video lessons at my Patreon page. I had a good time at KCC. It was and still is one of the best institutions in Brooklyn New York.
