Welcome to KiwiStory!
This is hopefully the start of an impromptu writing group/game that anyone can join in and write!
How to play!
I, @KiwiJuce3, will start off by writing the first paragraph of a fictitious story. To play, you must read the paragraph, and write and title the next paragraph in the comments below. If you can't think of anything to branch off the first paragraph but see someone made an interesting second paragraph and want to branch off that instead, you can reply to that comment with your own continuation of the story. I will then choose the best continuations of the story and include them in the next week's KiwiStory post. Responses, suggestions, and other comments are welcome!
I'm going to be starting off the story with more than 1 paragraph to hopefully give you guys something to work with, but I'll make sure to leave all the fun parts to you guys!
Rules
- There is no minimum word or sentence count, but your paragraph must have some meat to it, not just unimportant details.
- While the paragraphs with the most upvotes will be more likely to be entered, it isn't guaranteed.
- For right now, English only.
- The theme can vary from part to part. If someone starts off with sci-fi, you can transition that into whatever theme you like however you like.
- You are allowed to change who the speaker or what person they're speaking in (1st, 3rd), but you must keep the same speaker throughout your entire paragraph.
This Week's Rewards!
Every week we will give away something to make it worthwhile to take time out of your day to join in the fun. For this week, we're giving away 15 SteemBasicIncome shares for every paragraph that makes it into the story!
Want to try this out but not sure you're writing is good enough? Well, for our first KiwiStory we're going to give away 1 SteemBasicIncome share to EVERYONE who tries to continue the story, as long as it looks like you tried.
Now that we have all that sorted, let's get into the story!
Journey to the Other Side
I was just a typical college drop out with less than a hundred dollars to my name. I had always dreamed of becoming an explorer, claiming Mars in the name of the United States of gosh darn America. I wanted to explore the depths of the jungle, finding the remains of ancient societies and discover new lands never discovered before. But two years into college I found out how much work you had to put in to learn how to discover something properly, and I just gave up. My entire life just fell down around me after that. I started skipping classes, wasting what money I had saved up, and losing every scholarship I won. Once I was down to $100, I decided I would fly out to another city, as far as I could get, and look for a job at a local McDonalds or something. And that's where everything changed.
"Hey, I got $100 on me right now, where's the farthest I can go with this?" I asked one of the airline employees.
"Furthest out from here you can go for $100 is to LAX" she replied with a sweet voice.
"Dammit, that's only about 20 miles from here. Are you sure there's nowhere further?"
"Well, we do have a private location you can go to, but it's gotta stay a surprise until you get there," she told me with a wink.
"I'll take it," I told her, hoping I wasn't about to get scammed.
She took my $100 bill from me and gave me a blank red paper in the shape of a ticket.
"Wait, this is emp-"
I turned, and she was gone. "How's that even possible?" I asked myself. Her bright blue airline shirt was nowhere in sight. I was afraid she had just taken my money and ran leaving me with a fake ticket, but I decided to take my chances and see if I could get on a plane with this ripoff. I asked another nearby employee where I should go with this ticket, and she pointed me to a terminal about 30 feet down. I ran over there just as they were boarding, and managed to shout "WAIT!" right before they closed the gate. I scrambled over and handed my red ticket to the lady standing next to the gate, and she just handed it back and waved me through. As soon as I got on, I noticed the plane was empty. "Wai-" I turned to the flight attendant, but she was gone too. Just as I started to look around, the plane began to move. The pilot's raspy voice came over the speakers and announced - "Ladies and gentlemen, please remain seated and keep your seat belts fastened during take-off and diving. We will reach our destination in approximately 2 hours. Next stop- -----!"
And that's it! My part complete! Feel free to continue the story however you like, as long as it's the same story! In the blank at the end of the story, you can change it to be whereever you want!
