I made myself happy today. Or how you look at it. After several years of struggle, I gave up the debate at home about making a gun license. Before starting a family, I didn't think about carrying a weapon.
I was quite skeptical about the reality of today in neighboring Germany, where have an average two knife attacks every day.
I don't have such problems in the Czech Republic yet, but the security situation is deteriorating. Overall, society has changed a lot in recent years. The events of the last few days in particular have mobilized me, and I have decided to at least buy a knife.
The task was simple. Lightweight, small enough to fit in my pocket, with a convenient mechanism for quick one-handed opening.
I opted for proven Czech quality from the long-established knife manufacturer Mikov.
The online store stated that a luxury leather belt sheath was included. The quality of the sheath is not particularly luxurious. However, I will not need it.
This cherished item is not for public display, intimidation, or flexing. It should not create tension or problems.
On the contrary, it should wait patiently in my pocket until the situation is resolved in another way.
The knife have a 9.5 cm stainless steel blade.
The blade is released by a safety catch, which you flip over with your thumb with a gentle movement...
...and press down.
Closing works similarly. Press the flipped safety catch and the blade will loose.
Some details of the workmanship are not good, but this is not a collector's item and the mechanism should be reliable and functional for a very long time. It can be purchased on Czech e-shops for $60-80. Some Mikov works are 4000$+...
