For the last 2 years in a row, I have been involved in a small group of knitters to knit pairs of knockers. Personally, I have been producing 3 to 4 pairs each years in requested cup size.
For anyone who is not familiar with the organization, I will explain about it a bit with the official excerpt from its website:
- https://www.knittedknockers.org/ - for International site
- http://www.knittedknockersindonesia.org/section/home - for Indonesian site
Knitted Knockers are special handmade breast prosthesis for women who have undergone mastectomies or other procedures to the breast. Traditional breast prosthetics are usually expensive, heavy, sweaty and uncomfortable. They typically require special bras or camisoles with pockets and can’t be worn for weeks after surgery. Knitted Knockers on the other hand are soft, comfortable, beautiful and when placed in a regular bra they take the shape and feel of a real breast. Our special volunteer knitters provide these free to those requesting them. Knitted knockers can be adjusted to fill the gap for breasts that are uneven and easily adapted for those going through reconstruction by simply removing some of the stuffing.
The purpose of this website https://www.knittedknockers.org/ or http://www.knittedknockersindonesia.org/section/home is to help connect volunteer knitters with breast cancer survivors to offer free Knitted Knockers to any woman who wants them. There is a huge demand for Knitted Knockers that can’t be met by any one group but together we can do it! If someone in each area will set a goal of meeting the need in just their county it can happen!
This website provides patterns to knit or crochet knockers. Women can also come and request a knocker in the size and color they want. In addition, we provide a how to guide on how to start your own Knitted Knocker group in your area.
Explore the Testimonials page to see how knitted knockers have affected others or to leave your own feedback. We also have tips on how to set up displays and provide knockers to your local doctors and clinics for distribution to women… along with links to groups in your area.
Together we can in a simple, loving way bring a smile to women at a low point in their life. You can do it alone and then compile yours with others or the community that works together in the effort.
Below are the pictures of few items that I have made so far with yarn choices recommended.
Year 2017

The Front part. Sometimes some people purposely knitted bigger nipple, but since the way I cast on is using Magic button, extra knitted nipple is no longer needed.

The Back side. The opening is where you stuffed in the padding / filling to puff it up.

1st pairs

2nd pairs

3rd pairs.
All 3 pairs actually only use 2 balls of yarn about 100gr or so. If I can recall, they are all Cup B sizes.
Year 2018

Yarns of choice.

Results are 5 pairs from 3 balls of yarn, some with combined leftover yarns and still have a bit of yarns left.
I hope I can keep on contribute to the cause and organization in many more years to come. Craft skills that help others are the greatest gifts to the souls.
