현재 K-Pop을 위시하여 한국음악계가 국내외적으로 큰 성공을 거두고 있으나, 사견(私見)으로 이는 보이지 않는 곳에서 그 저변을 착실하게 넓혀온 선배 음악가가 있었기에 가능하다 생각합니다. 이 작업은 그러한 이들 중 일부를 재조명하고 주목하는 성격을 띱니다.
Nowadays we are witnessing so called 'golden era' of Korean music with advancements of K-POP inside or outside Korea. Surely this achievement is worthy given applause, but may this may have not been available without other musicians who laid foundations of Korea pop sounds in early times. This post aims for re-highlighting one of them.
우리는 "이소라"라는 보컬리스트를 익히 잘 알고 있습니다. 그리고 지금 소개할 그룹은, 바로 그 이소라가 초창기에 활동했을 때 소속되어 있던 그룹입니다. 그 이름은 바로 낯선 사람들입니다. 한 사이트의 소개에 따르면, 이들은 인천대학교의 <포크라인>이라는 동아리원들을 중심으로 처음 결성되었다고 하네요. 1993년과 1996년, 각각 1장씩의 앨범을 발표한 바 있습니다.
In Korea, a female vocalist named Lee So Ra is well-known and versatile. And this group is the very first group she took part in. Its name? "The Strangers". According to one site mentioned above, this group had started as singing community in Incheon University.
이들의 노래는 90년대 초반에 횡행했던 다른 곡들과4는 다른 면모를 보입니다. 사실 이들이 미국의 맨하탄 트랜스퍼(Manhattan Trasnfers)를 베꼈다는 비판도 있습니다만, 그들만의 문법과 가사를 이용해 새로운 영역을 개척한 건 분명합니다. 깔끔한 선율에 기반한 덕에, 오늘날까지도 듣기 좋고 '고급스럽다'는 인상마저 줍니다.
Their songs is distinct from others which was famous and pervasive in early 90s in S. Korea. Though they are criticized for mimicking(!) style ofManhattan Trasnfers, surely they pioneered their own realm using different grammars and lyrics. So their songs are still good to hear today and give us a impression that "It is classy", basically based on neat and tide notes.

이 그룹이 사실 관심을 끄는 것은, 현재 한국 대중음악계를 이끄는 거물들의 풋풋한 모습을 목격할 수 있다는 점입니다. 이소라는 말할 것도 없고, 고찬용과 정원영, 김광민에 이르기까지 말이죠. 확실한 건, 이소라는 거의 25년 전에도 미친듯이 노래를 했다는 사실.... 듣고 있으면 소름 끼칠 정도입니다.
One of intriguing things about this group, is that we can find Lee So Ra's young face of 1993, about 25 yrs ago. And other musicians, who is now in "bit hitter", also participated in this group. One thing is certain : Lee So Ra is...... invincible and monster(!).

2집에서는 이소라가 빠지게 되지만, 특유의 리듬과 느낌은 여전합니다. 1996년에 발매된 2집 수록곡 중 하나입니다.
Though Lee So Ra Left the group before 2nd album was released, but their own rhythm and feelings remained same. One of songs in their 2nd album below.

국내에도 이렇게 감각적인 음악을 하는 사람이 있었다, 는 정도로 기억해주시면 됩니다.
