The Academy Awards is arranged this Sunday. It is a fantastic event and I look forward to it myself. But I have learned long time ago that not all movies winning actual awards are worth watching. One of the worst examples is La La Land. If you haven't seen it yet, read this review, and forget about watching it.
Why you shouldn't watch La La Land.
La La Land, the movie that won several Oscars, is a complete waste of time. The fact that it received any awards is baffling to me because the movie is a disaster from start to finish.
Firstly, the plot of La La Land is incredibly predictable and cliche. The movie follows the story of a struggling actress and musician trying to make it in Hollywood, a plot that has been done countless times before in much better films. The characters are flat, uninteresting, and lack any depth whatsoever.
Furthermore, the musical numbers in La La Land are uninspired and forgettable. The songs are forgettable, the choreography is bland and the performances lack any real emotion or passion. The movie tries to pay homage to old Hollywood musicals but fails miserably in comparison to the classics.
The chemistry between the two main characters is also non-existent. Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone seem to be going through the motions without any real connection or spark between them. Their performances are lackluster and do nothing to elevate the film.
Moreover, the movie suffers from pacing issues. The first half of the movie drags on with nothing much happening, while the second half feels rushed and disjointed, with the story jumping from one plot point to the next without any real continuity or coherence.
In conclusion, La La Land is a movie that fails on every level. The predictable plot, uninspired musical numbers, lackluster performances, and pacing issues all add up to a film that is not worth watching. The fact that it won several Oscars is a complete mystery to me, and I would not recommend wasting your time on this overhyped and underwhelming movie.
