Nestled between an air force base and a missile range, White Sands National Monument is an interesting piece of geography. Out of the middle of the desert rises random and quite large gypsum sand dunes. While small in size it is big on fun!
Unlike normal beach sand, the gypsum sand doesn't sting your eyes or get into EVERY crevice of your body. This makes it ideal for rolling down the dunes, running down the dunes, or sledding down the dunes. It's even pretty fun to bury yourself in the dunes and enjoy the cool sand.
If you're ever in Alamogordo, NM and want something to do besides get beer and pizza at Lowe's, head on out to White Sands, you won't be disappointed!
